Ever wonder what happens to all the wish lists you see on popular retail sites? All too often, the answer is simple: nothing. Some people can't afford everything they want. Others create "Wish lists" that are nothing more than a bunch of links.
SocialWish is changing all that. Through one simple website, we're connecting people to any kind of wish you can imagine, and making it truly “social”!
Sick of self-indulgent status updates and time-guzzling texting sessions? Think of us as the antidote to social media snottiness.
It's time to put social media to real use, both for yourself and others. Whether you want to help someone buying books for college or buy that digital camera you've dreamed about, SocialWish is here to connect people with wishes and to help make dreams come true!
SocialWish's origin story starts like them all - an ordinary day when inspiration just happens to strike.
Not too long ago, Tanya asked Yan to update his online shopping wish list so his friends could buy him a birthday gift he would actually like. As a digital filmmaker, Yan knew exactly what he wanted: a Canon wide angle lens.
The problem? Though Yan considered himself a man of simple tastes, digital filming equipment is often expensive - sometimes costing several hundred dollars per item. It would take a special breed of friend to make that wish list come true all in one birthday, and Yan wasn't running with the country club crowd. He thought he might as well rub a lamp to see if a genie came out.
When Tanya saw his wish list, she wrinkled her nose. Wide angle lenses and high-definition video? Maybe there was something to this "genie" idea after all.
Then a thought hit her. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way people could pool their resources together for someone's gift? Yan and Tanya looked each other.
Bingo.
After some intense searching, they concluded there was nothing out there that provided this exact service. Not satisfied with their search results, they took the leap and decided to build their own wish list service.
Like any great networking tool, the engine that drives SocialWish is you. And you. And the woman next to you. And that woman's neighbor across the street. And that dude's pen pal from Singapore.
In so many words, everyone.
It didn't take long for Yan and Tanya to realize their idea didn't only apply to digital photography products. When people work together and pool their resources, some amazing things can happen - whether you're talking about birthday gifts or donating money to help provide for someone in need.
Here you can build your own Wish, specify who the Wish is for and decide whether or not you want your Wish to be announced to the world or a small group of friends and family. Whether you're simply creating a Wish for your birthday present or Wishing on someone else's behalf, you can use SocialWish to make it happen.
SocialWish works for a range of desires, whether you're thinking about charity, gifts or commerce. Some things that come to mind:
Combined with an easy to use interface and intuitive online pay method, SocialWish does its best to stay out of the way. SocialWish is about what you want and what you can give.
We take the "Social" in SocialWish very seriously, and we believe that it's only through the good intentions of a supportive online community that makes it possible for wishes to come true. We are only here because of your participation.
That's why we donate 10% of all our profits to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Even if your Wish is for yourself, you'll still be helping people with big needs and big dreams.
Many people don't know how to give back to the community because they've never done it before. We're going to make it easy to accomplish what social media was always meant to accomplish: bringing people together under a banner of fellowship and community without losing the spontaneity and fun of interacting on the web.
